A chicken kebab from our local takeaway costs £4.60, this homemade version is a fraction of the price but just as tasty!
Serves 4-6 Approx cost per person 75p
Marinating 1hr/overnight Prep/Cooking 15 mins
Ingredients
4 chicken breasts, cut into strips
1 ready mixed salad (I got one from Iceland for £1, comes with lettuce, tomato & cucumber!)
6 pitta breads
For the marinade
4tsp runny honey
4tsp light soy sauce
a pinch (or 2!) of chilli powder
1 heaped tsp english mustard (or mustard powder)
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp black pepper
6tsp vegetable oil
Mix the marinade ingredients together in a bowl.
Place the chicken in the marinade & mix, making sure the chicken is well coated
Put the chicken in the fridge for 1 hour or ideally all day (or even overnight!) The longer you can marinate the chicken the tastier & more tender it will be!
Put a frying pan on a medium to high heat (no oil!) & fry the chicken with the marinade for about 8 minutes.
Toast the pittas for about 2 minutes each side.
Serve the chicken in the pittas with the salad & any sauces you fancy!
